Summary of the Survey:

- 40,000 respondents.

- 96% of vapers reported reducing or quitting smoking.

- 88% consider flavor diversity important.

- 85% said lower vaping costs encouraged them to switch from cigarettes.

As the Merci la vape petition continues to gain traction with nearly 90,000 signatures, the four French associations defending personal vaporizers,AIDUCE,SOVAPE, La vape du Cœur, andFIVAPE, have just released the results of their major survey. Conducted among more than 40,000 vapers, this is the largest survey to datein France. Its objective is clear: to alert public authorities with compelling figures.

This initial synthesis of the MERCI LA VAPE survey should therefore prompt public authorities to address the significant health risks posed by persistent denigration and misinformation about vaping, as well as plans for additional taxes on products, and flavor prohibition.

The first figure reported by the associations is that 96% of vapers would have reduced or quit smoking since they started using an electronic cigarette, with nearly all (97%) noting that vaping helped them do so. This data confirms the findings of numerous scientific studies that have concluded that thepersonal vaporizer is currently the most effective smoking cessation tool on the market.

Another interesting figure, 88% of respondents would estimate that the diversity of e-liquid flavors has diverted them from smoking. At a time when this diversity has never been more threatened, notably by the upcoming revision of the TPD, this data nevertheless underlines its importance for smokers wishing to quit smoking through vaping. Moreover, in case of a ban on these flavors, 57% would indicate that they will continue to source them through the black market, and 32% that they will simply return to smoking.

And flavors would concern a vast majority of e-cigarette users since 74% of respondents would vape fruity flavors and 42% gourmand flavors. Menthol e-liquids would be favored by 22% of participants, while drink or gourmet classic flavors would be preferred by 15% of vapers. Thus, only 12% would vape classic liquids, the only flavor that would be authorized in case of flavor ban.

Similarly, regarding a potential vaping tax. 85% of the 40,000 respondents would estimate that the reduced cost of vaping products has encouraged them to reduce their smoking, and 52% would indicate that this saving has even been "essential." In case of an increase in the price of vaping products, if 52% would express their intention to turn to parallel sources of supply, nearly a quarter (26%) would also indicate that they will return to smoking.

These figures demonstrate that a tightening of vaping legislation would have serious consequences, notably by sending nearly a quarter of vapers back to smoking, a product known to kill one user out of two.
